WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2006

Keep in mind, this title was created for the hardcore wrestling fans as well as fans from the 80’s and 90’s. What most fans will enjoy most is the season mode where you can take a wrestler and go through an entire season and witness the drama that happens behind the scenes as you try to win as many belts as you can. But does it bring that WWE package that fans have come to love without watering it down? Audio/Visual: The developers did a great job of recreating the entire WWE presentation within the game. Excellent intros for each wrestler, a crowd that cheers and boos due to whatever you’re doing in the ring, and character models that look exactly like their real life counterparts. On the audio side, every wrestler came in and voiced their characters, adding authenticity to the game’s entire presentation. The commentators are good too, even though they’re repetitive in most cases, they’re pretty funny and sarcastic. Musically, the soundtrack is a nice mix of rock and hip-hop, which also features songs from wrestler turned rapper John Cena. Controls: This not a button-mashing game. If you just press a bunch of buttons like you do in other fighting games, you will lose, guaranteed. Like most of the WWE games, the controls are based on several combos ranging in strike, grappling and other activities in the ring (or outside the ring). The game seems real slow at first, especially if you’re not familiar with the control aspects, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll slapping fools and throwing them across the ring in no time. Just stick with it. Hotness: The ability to play with classic wrestlers like British Bulldog, Bret “Hitman” Hart, or Andre the Giant make you want to go further in the game. The further you go, the more wrestling legends you’re able to unlock. Wackness: The learning curve of the control aspect. It’s real frustrating at times, so much so, you’ll consider giving up and taking the game back. But just stick with it, you’ll be glad you did.
