JUICE: The Photographers (Part One)

Behind the scenes with the photographers of our 2007 Juice issue.

VIBE's September 2007 Juice issue was photographed by a group of artists and ingenues in their own right - the New Power Generation, behind the camera. Below, some of the photographers talk about what went on at their respective photo shoots. Check back next week for more photos and anecdotes. NAME, AGE: Christopher Martin, 33
RESIDES IN: Atlanta, GA
PHOTOGRAPHED: Fabo in Atlanta, GA
MUSIC PLAYED DURING THE SHOOT: No music. Fabo had a beat in his head.
ANECDOTE: The "manager" of the motel sweated me for $10 for his help in getting "permission" to shoot there. Then [there was] the nice police man that told me to watch my back. Everybody knows Fabo, so we were straight.
FAVORITE PLACE TO SHOOT: [I've been] shooting more entertainers lately. [I] prefer locations - anything unusual or places regular people just don't get to be.
PERSON WHO TAUGHT ME HOW TO HAVE JUICE: Jim. You all know him.
5 YEARS AGO, MY GOAL WAS: [To] return clients that paid my bills.
5 YEARS FROM NOW, MY GOAL IS: [To have] jobs all over the globe.
BIGGEST PROBLEM FACING OUR GENERATION: Ignorance.

MUSIC THEY LISTENED TO DURING THE SHOOT: I just enjoyed the silence.
BIO: Boogie was born in Belgrade, Serbia in 1969. His father and grandfather were amateur photographers. He graduated from Belgrade University in 1996 with a degree in Electronics and Microprocessors. In 1998 he won a green card through a lottery and emigrated to the US. He is a self-taught photographer. His work has appeared in The New York Times, Rolling Stone, TIME, Maxim, Playboy, among other publications. His clients include Nike, Lee Jeans, Element Skateboards, and Shellac.

MUSIC PLAYED DURING THE SHOOT: Mickey Avalon, Citizen Cope, John Legend, Frank Sinatra, and Notorious B.I.G.
ANECDOTE: The shoot was the morning after the BET awards. Lauren London was actually a presenter at the awards and then went out on customary post show events. When she got to the shoot I suggested we go for that "I've been out partying all night" look - worked out pretty well.
