K. Sparks’ musical output may be so diverse as to defy easy description, but he does have a few stylistic calling cards; two of the foremost being jazzy, chilled-out beats and rapid, unpredictable but always precise flows. On Calling Me, the fourth official leak off his Booth-cosponsored Super Seniors mixtape, the Queens rapper brings both of his aforementioned trademarks together in one track, and the result is just as fresh as fans would expect. Frequent collaborator Kurser outdoes himself on the production tip, serving up a lushly-sampled Latin-jazz instrumental as Sparks shifts effortlessly between between laid-back and breakneck rhymes. Topped off with the smooth R&B vocals of Movin On/Ghetto Child singer Tina Quallo and one hell of a flute solo, Calling Me is equal parts soothing melody and lyrical fire an intoxicating combo that will undoubtedly add up to another Booth smash. Super Seniors is tentatively set to drop in late October. In the meantime, keep it locked to our frontpage for all the latest leaks!
