V Exclusive: Tupac Shakur -- The Lost Footage, Pt. I

It's been 13 years since 2Pac died on the 13th day of September 1996, yet the void he left in hip-hop--let alone black culture--is gaping, For his anniversary, VIBE revives the fallen icon, if just for a couple minutes, with the first in a series of previously unreleased interview footage from May '96. As he discusses a unified rap nation and where he'd be in 2016, 'Pac is everything we remember: Candid, passionate, prophetic. Rest in peace, Tupac Amaru Shakur.

Tupac whoever the shooter was that thought they killed you did the exact opposite. You are more alive today that you ever were. Today 9.13.09 marks the 13th year of your transformation. At age 25 u had the wisdom and confidence of a man who had lived many life times. We all make mistakes in life but you lived without any reservations and i'll always admire u for that. Your music and words have a life of their own. Like Michael Jackson you binded your soul to your work. You are truly a King. The government saw u as the reflection of the hate they gave to African Americans over the years. You refused to bow down to this system of mental slavery. No Uncle Tom for you. They couldn't understand how a young black man could have so much fame, fortune and power without selling his soul. Many say you sold ya soul to death row but you knew your destiny so that surely wasn't the case. Whereever you are just know that you've left a trail of diamonds and pearls for us to inherit.

I really do hope that Tupac has found peace. He's part of the reason why I am the way that I am today. His words are truly inspirational minus the violence and misogyny. That brother will be missed. http://youtube.com/watch?v=wGnGYbccqxM
