Los Angeles Looking to Recoup From Michael Jackson Memorial

After shelling out $3 million for Michael Jackson's star-studded memorial service, the city of Los Angeles now wants its money back.

According to the Los Angeles Times, City Attorney Carmen Trutanich is looking to recoup from the Staples Center owner Anschutz Entertainment Group. Jackson's July memorial was held at the Staples Center.

"The bottom line is the city attorney's very committed to recouping the taxpayer's dollars," city spokesman John Franklin said Monday. "During these tough economic times right now, that's big money. We're laying off, people are getting furloughed... It's still money that we put out for a memorial service for Michael Jackson."

Overall, the event brought in a total of approximately $4 million from hotels and area restaurants. -Linda Hobbs
