His eighth solo CD, Rebirth, the 41-year-old Sweat has no plans to retire from a scene densely populated by R&B crooners-in-training. Rebirth probably won’t win Sweat any new fans, but he certainly won’t lose any. Despite a reliance on talk boxes and synth strings, and predictable references to two-ways and the number 69, the album has few missteps. The high-water mark is “I Want You,” a ridiculously funky tune peppered with whistles, rims, and bursts of ’70s-style horns. Scorching boudoir ballads like “One on One” and “Trust Me” also excel.
