If you took the aching, ethereal texture out of Sade’s voice, it would sound like Rhian Benson’s smooth, silky alto. On her jazzy debut, the Ghanaian- British singer wades through a murky arrangement of dated, uninspired James Poyser/Bob Power productions. Amid the cascade of tropical easy-listening tunes, Benson blossoms on the bittersweet “Words Hurt Too” and the lush “Shake It Away.” While her vocal and stylistic resemblance to Ms. Adu is ambitious, the incomparable sound of the one-of-akind luminary proves to be as untouchable as the sweetest taboo.
