Back in ’91, Will Downing’s A Dream Fulfilled created a new black pop sound: sensual R&B ballads rounded off with a touch of jazz. These days, he sets an even higher standard with Emotions’ program of R&B classics and originals infused with jazz: George Duke, Norman Brown, Gerald Albright, and other notables make appearances.
From emotionally transcendent versions of Aretha Franklin’s “Daydreaming” and Eddie Holman’s “Hey There Lonely Girl” to Downing’s own “Beautiful to Me” and “Rhythm of U & Me,” Emotions verifies that this veteran feels everything he sings.
