With his third album, MTA2: Baptized in Dirty Water, David Banner takes his deep-down Dirty South style to hostile extremes, answering his detractos with defiance. "Tell them hating-ass niggas they can suck a dick," he growls on the adrenaline-charging "Eternal." Banner has no intention of changing his successful rap formula; he keeps the sounds as gritty and unapologetically crunk as ever. The first single, "Crank It Up," with its full-blwon bass line, is the quintessential jump-off for the album, settign the stage for his hyper, crooked letter onslaught. But then he abandons his super-raw MO, and things get weird. Banner comes clean on "My Lord," a slow-flowing confessional that seems out of place with these bold proclamations. The Jazzee Pha-produced "Pretty Pink" is way to dainty for this set, while Banner's crooning on the "The Game" falls flat. Getting back to the roots of his success, Banner skillfully remixes "Like a Pimp" with Busta Rhymes and Twista, while reuniting with Lil' Flip on "Talk to Me." And that's where the mouth of Mississippi sounds best.
