Anita Baker - My Everything (Blue Note)
by: Orlando Lima

If you like your R&B Beyoncéfied, Anita Baker’s My Everything—a solid collection of R&B ballads fitted to contemporary jazz arrangements—is not for you. Baker’s first album in 10 years demonstrates the same power and graceful tone coloring that made her a mid-’80s staple. The only downside is that all the tracks sound similar, from the lead single, “You’re My Everything,” all the way through.

But when you have enduring talent like Baker’s (she wrote and arranged most of the songs on the album), that’s no biggie. She’s the rare artist who can put her larynx in a time capsule and wait a decade before breaking the seal.
