Being incarcerated hasn't stopped C-Murder from compiling a well-rounded album. His all-too-real version of "Locked Up," featuring Akon, has particular meaning, for obvious reasons, but it's not the only hidden gem. Tracks like the soulful "Did U Hold It Down" and the eerie "Y'all Heard of Me," featuring B.G., hearken back to the days of Southern gangsta rap with synthetic, catchy beats and shameless street parables.
Though at times crude and unrefined, The Truest captures some of that Louisiana ghetto soundscape we know and love.
