Layzie Bone keys down his hard-core L-Burna persona to create a commercially tinged, street-themed sophomore effort. Cymbals and snares dominate, and, thug clichés aside, Layzie consistently blends his chanting and rhyming into a winning combination. He shows his inner party animal on the dance-ready “2 Step.” And guest appearances from artists on his Mo Thugs label increase the album’s cohesiveness. Elsewhere, Layzie collaborates with his Bone Thug brother Krayzie Bone to create some nostalgic chemistry and raps alongside Twista on “Midwest Invasion.” Maybe it’s not a true takeover, but a victory nonetheless.
