And while Young Chris and Neef do show maturity (“It’s the Life”), the Gunz sometimes offer unimaginative concepts and occasionally lazy lyrics. “The Way It Goes,” for example, is a hollowthong song with Neef shamefully rapping: “I lay pipe all night / So let the bed bugs bite.”
While they rarely stray from their subject matter of guns, funds, and butts, their complementary flow results in radio-ready adrenaline rushes like “The Knock Is There” and “Set It Off,” slickly produced by Chad West and Swizz Beatz, respectively. Meanwhile, the gritty “Same Shit, Different Day” paints an entertaining portrait of their everyday dealings with baby mama drama and shooting dice. To Chris and Neef, such things are a family affair.
