The veteran singer/songwriter, who has racked an impressive R&B catalog, fails to innovate, though. It's certainly easy to appreciate the crooner's maturity and supple voice on tracks like "Sorry for the Stupid Things." But one can also mistake the song - with its sluggish tempo and instrumental minimalism - for any other on the album. With every little evolution, and the sexy part left back somewhere in the '90s, Grown feels more like an extended elevator ride than an adult movement.
