Little Brother - The Minstrel Show (Atlantic)
Catapulting the group are 9th’s rich, nuanced instrumentals — in particular, the majestic horns and luscious strings of “Lovin’ It” and the idiosyncratic drum patterns of “Say It Again.” Add to that Phonte’s compelling stories and rapper Big Pooh’s witty braggadocio, and the result is a sophomore effort exhibiting A Tribe Called Quest (Midnight Marauders-era) potential. With LB’s talents so evenly proportioned, their Show can be just as entertaining as it is sophisticated.
