Sharissa - Every Beat of My Heart (Virgin)
R. Kelly's repentant "In Love With a Thug" and the bluesy "I'm Through," with Millie Jackson, help bring Sharissa's smoky alto back to relevancy after a 2002 debut. On "Take Me As I Am," however, Wyclef Jean misleads her into regurgitating one of his ditties from The Carnival era. But Sharissa entices listeners back with inspirational ballads like the violin-infused "I Got Love," proving she may not need that much hand-holding after all.
