Donell Jones - Journey of a Gemini (LaFace)
Such is the case with Journey, a tender mood album that highlights Jones’s rich, nuanced vocals. Over the sultry horns of “Special Girl,” he effortlessly fluctuates from tenor to falsetto while searching for his soul mate. And “Better Start Talking,” with Jermaine Dupri’s party-hearty backing, hurls Jones outside the bedroom and into the club. Such surprises are rare, however, in Jones’s warm and comfortable world.
