When he’s not reasserting his status, however, Flip sounds bored, spitting obvious, unimaginative lines: “I’m rich, but I don’t like to brag a lot / 45 in my pants, so I sag a lot,” he raps on “Tell Me.” The disc’s ingenious beats make up for Flip’s occasional lack of enthusiasm, from the sizzurp-drenched “Starch & Cleaned” to the foot-stomping single “What It Do,” where producer Mannie Fresh cleverly revisits the anthemic horns of Young Jeezy’s “And Then What.” Despite his somewhat disillusioned tone, I Need Mine’s occasional rap darts ensure that Flip’s game ain’t over just yet.
