Ralph Tresvant - Rizzwafaire (Xzault)

Blame songs like the jittery, mid-tempo “Angel,” a track similar to Bobby Valentino’s “Tell Me” but lacking the latter’s thumps and knocks. Worse even, Tresvant describes his lady as an “intelligent...specimen of a human being.” This tendency toward anemic production and clumsy lyrics persists throughout the disc, with only sporadic flashbacks of Tresvant’s boyish charm, as on the coyly sexy “Homegirl.” But these moments fail to resurrect the sweet magic that hypnotized the candy girls of the ’80s.
