Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere (Downtown/Atlantic)

Providing the singer with textured, funky music beds on tracks like “Just A Thought” and “Smiley Faces,” Danger Mouse both complements Cee-Lo’s gritty voice and brings out its innate poppy-ness. Likewise, on “Crazy” and the energetic Violent Femmes cover “Gone Daddy Gone,” Cee-Lo’s style draws the best out of Danger’s quirky sound. Though he may not say it to his Goodie brethren, it sounds like Cee-Lo has found his sonic better half in Danger Mouse. Maybe one monkey don’t stop the show, but sometimes he finds an apt mate and steals the audience.
