Jurassic 5 - Feedback (Interscope)
left The tongue-in-cheek rants of “Brown Girl” ape classic girl-group harmonies, while “Where We At,” with its George Clinton–esque machismo, masquerades as a protest against hip hop’s lack of originality. In their earnest effort to recharge rap, however, the veterans’ pioneer-day rhetoric comes off as heavy-handed. But beyond the occasional dated lines like, “I know women who dodge balls like Ben Stiller,” J-5’s boom-bapping makes the old new again.
