At times, her infectious melodies recall the Beatles: On “Dream,” piano jabs evolve into pop grandeur, with Smith singing over bugged-out trumpets, guitars, and synths. All the while her songwriting is intimate. The best thing about Smith’s wild imagination is that it’s grounded in everyday life.
