In brief: the R&B singer talks romance, his new album.

Southern crooner Joe took a little time out from promoting his new album - Ain't Nothin Like Me, which drops today - to give VIBE some insight into his hip-hop collaborations - Nas, Fabolous and Papoose are featured on the record - and the story behind his single, "If I Was Your Man." ON HIS SWAGGER:
"I wanna make sure everybody understands this is an R&B album, but I'm connecting with my hip-hop generation. The past 10-15 years as hip-hop really took over. Rock and roll has never really lost its swagger - you know, with Green Day and Limp Bizkit mixin in rap with rock. So the choices became infinite. There's so many different artists with different styles that connected with your generation. We all want our own. Our parents came with the old school artists, then with our generation, you know Beastie Boys, Grandmaster Flash - all those artists who kind of like bring in a new generation. " ON HIS LOVE JONES:
"I'm always taking about relationships. Everybody's gotta have a partner, nobody wants to be alone! The romantic, that's me all day. I'm not frontin with that one. I'm single right now. I got my little heart broke, you know what I'm saying. I started out real young, when I was 19 years old. I grew up in the industry and that's a fast life. You know, you meeting girls all the time. So I never really had the chance to settle down. Now I'm in my 30s and getting my heart broken... it's a tough age to get your heart broken.
"It was broken by someone I was real close to, who was with me for quite awhile. Sometimes when you settle down in this industry you become relaxed. You lose a certain swagger - not confidence but that cockiness, out of the respect of you being in the relationship. But when you're single and you're talking about relationships on your record people see that. Me in a relationship, I'm not the argument type. I'd rather talk it out. I'm real mellow, real low-key. I'd rather have a good time in life." Watch "If I Was Your Man":
