Video: Rihanna, "Shut Up and Drive"
"Shut Up and Drive": Rihanna is going in for her rock appeal by milking classic video roles: the 1980s rock "female mechanic"... the "flag chick for a drag race"... the rap trope "pum pum shorts in a parking lot." And let's not forget the "punk bandleader heading up a band in a dirty club" - a club much scummier than the pristine space where Beyonce's band practiced in the "Irreplaceable" video. But bad girls like to kick it in seedy places. And Rihanna is a good girl gone bad. Which, if you have forgotten, is underscored by this video.
