Diddy-groomed Danity Kane may have gone platinum on their 2006 self-titled debut, but they never truly nailed Spice Girls–style pop. Their follow-up, Welcome to the Dollhouse, is a bolder and better shot at chart-topping girl power. And DK’s platinum status has paid off in clout—they score space-age soundscapes from producer Danjahandz on “Pretty Boy” and “Striptease,” both of which have whispery hooks that sound positively addictive.
Dollhouse does stall with an outlandishly vulgar verse from Rick Ross—hardly a sex icon—on the trancelike “Extasy.” But while DK’s quest for pop domination falls short, the club-friendly Dollhouse cements their posh appeal.
