A vicious “you-don’t-know-me” scowl cuts across T.I.’s mug as he cracks the tinted window to see what’s happening. Two big-ass white dudes, one of ’em rocking a handlebar moustache, stare back. The opposing passenger flashes a badge. “You got a problem?”
The look on T.I.’s face fades. “Nah, I’m just running late, that’s all.”
“You need to watch the fuck out, or you’re gonna be real late, you understand?”
“Yes, sir,” T.I. says. He rolls up the window and, with one eye on the rearview, slowly takes the next right.
“I thought they were just some regular white boys with a pistol,” Peterson says.
“Whatever they did, I’ma believer,” says T.I. “I used to not give a fuck, but I am scared of the police, ’cause they’ll have you fucked up. You got a gun, I got my gun. But if you got a badge, all right, you win. It’s your show. You make the rules.”
The Dodge hits I-10, the road opens up, and T.I. lays a lead foot on the gas.
