Williams talked to VIBE.com about her time on the set of First Sunday, her next project, and what became of her lingerie line.
VIBE.com: Do you have a preference on the type of movies you like to star in? Do you like doing comedies over a more serious role?
Malinda Williams: No, even comedy usually comes out of drama. You have to be able to laugh at things that are tragic as well. Usually things that are really funny come out of the more serious issues in life. I don’t have a preference but I enjoy doing them both. They’re both equally challenging.
How was it working with Ice Cube, Katt Williams and Tracy Morgan?
They were all pretty professional. I always have my own personal experience in terms of how I choose to be on a set. I choose to always make my experiences good. Even if I do have a bad experience, I find a way to turn it into a good one. But working with those guys, there’s nothing bad to say. They were all professional, it was fun because they were constantly cracking jokes and making us laugh.
I know you’re working with Tracy Morgan again for Nailed, what’s that project about?
It’s a comedy starring Jessica Biel and Tracy Morgan. It's about these people who go to Washington to rally around this girl who has a medical condition, she has a nail stuck in her head. They try to pass a law where everyone gets emergency health care; basically emergency healthcare for everyone.
Are you looking forward to working with anyone on any upcoming films or anything?
I don’t really make a little list of people that I want to work with. I kind of just let life happen. On this current film that I’m working on now, I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t know what to expect of the people I’m working with but I was pleasantly surprised that they’re very talented. They take their work very seriously and they’re also very genuine people.
Well even when you were younger, when you used to watch television or movies, there was never one person that you would say, “Hey, I would really love to work with them?”
Never, because I never really planned the way my career would happen. I just always said I wan to be happy and whatever it is I just want to have fun. I feel like, the dream that you dream could never be bigger than the actual dream that God will give you. So I don’t like to impose my own wishes upon my life or my career because my wishes pale in comparison to those that God actually gives me. - Interview by Crystal Fairweather
