HOT FIVE AT 5: Featuring Clipse

Plus new cuts from Nicole Wray, Sammie, T-Pain, and Chip the Ripper

Clipse feat. Pharrell - "I'm Good"

The official first single from their forthcoming Till the Casket Drops (Re-Up/Columbia) is far less threatening than their street banger "Kinda Like A Big Deal." Pharrell's joyful noise over the this joint makes this more of a pop record than they’ve ever had. It’s a welcome change from the Virginia boys’ gangster ways.

Nicole Wray - “I Like It”

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Wray, so it’s funny that she’s singing over a track that samples 2Pac’s “I Get Around.” “Around” is something she really hasn’t been, but this is a smooth cut that will make you wish she doesn’t leave soon.

Chip The Ripper - “Still Get It In Ohio”

The Cleveland native hops on Cam’s ode to Ohio. Chip’s gritty home cooking is worth a taste.

T-Pain - “Know Your Name”

Similar to his ‘08 smash “Can’t Believe It,” this is another lullaby-like tune to put a pretty lady to bed. Producer Catalyst track is more forgettable, though.

Sammie - “Rover Love”

Sammie’s direct competition as a young R&B crooner is Chris Brown. Though Brown may have made Sammie’s job a bit easier with his recent trouble, he isn’t doing much to step into his spot. His voice strains and the beat bears resemblance to a weak Timbaland effort. Brown still wins.
