HOT FIVE AT 5: Featuring Mariah Carey

Plus new cuts from Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi and Plies

Mariah Carey -  “Obsessed”
From her forthcoming Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel (Island)
Is Mariah going at Eminem? Her bouncing mid-tempo first single, produced Tricky Stewart & The-Dream, clowns an unnamed fraud who claims he loved MiMi for a long time. It’s very hip hop of her to respond this way and we’re feeling her steeze.

Lil Wayne - “Girls Forever”
There's no telling if Universal Motown will release Weezy's rock-heavy effort, The Rebirth. And with songs like this humdrum J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League-produced Auto-Tuned leak, we wouldn’t mind if they pulled the plug.

Kid Cudi - “Excuse My Mood (Kinda Like a Big Deal)”

If your rhyming skills are questionable, it’d probably be best not to pick a beat that’s been rocked by the Clipse to rap over. On the duo’s latest street banger, Cudi proves he’s not ready to compete with them, lyrically. Yet.

Plies feat. Jim Jones - “I Got Plenty Money” (remix)

Harlem’s finest and the Florida gator link up to rap about the spoils of the rich life and the hate that comes along with living it. Sound familiar? Biggie, Diddy and Mase bodied this story with “Mo Money Mo Problems.” This isn’t holding a candle to it.

Gucci Mane feat. Snoop Dogg - “Awesome”

Gucci and Snoop add another term to hip hop’s slang dictionary with this boisterous banger. Dogg’s bite is a bit weak here. Gucci beat him with a cooler flow and Georgia swag. It might be time for the Cali legend to be put to rest.
