Fantasia Barrino Is America's New Idol
Fantasia Barrino, the 19 year-old single mother representing Highpoint, N.C., out sung her 16 year-old competitor Diana DeGarmo on the May 26 two-hour live airing of Fox's "American Idol." Barrino joins Kelly Clarkson and Ruben Studdard, previous "American Idol" winners. Billboard.com reports that "More than 65 million votes were cast during and after last night's final performance show aired on the East and West Coasts, according to host Ryan Seacrest. Barrino took the "Idol" crown by a margin of 1.3 million votes, according to Fox."
