A few weeks ago filmmaker Spike Lee publicly criticized movies that make a mockery of black people and reiterate stereotypes, such as Snoop Dogg's Soul Plane, in U.S. theaters May 28. The flick features Snoop, who's a pilot working for N.W.A., the first African-American airline. Soul food like fried chicken is served on the Day-Glo purple 747, which is decked out in rims and hydraulics, and is clouded by marijuana smoke. As reported on SeattlePi.com Lee described the flick as "coonery and buffoonery," adding that the "joke's on us." Snoop recently responded in the New York Daily News with, "Now he made him a little white movie (25th Hour) and he wants to talk about us." Snoop also added that Lee was being hypocritical since his movies, School Daze and Do The Right Thing could be considered "coonery and buffoonery" as well.
