Though he signed a hefty $3 million record deal with Island Def Jam while in prison, Shyne is not likely to see any of that money himself until a lawsuit brought against him by two bystanders wounded in a 1999 shooting a New York nightclub, is resolved. A Brooklyn judge ruled on March 16, based on the "Son of Sam" law that bars convits from profiting from their crimes, that the money will be held in escrow until a decision is made in the lawsuit, according to The Associated Press. The funds will be "preserved for payment of any judgement received by the plaintiffs," according to the ruling. In other words, if Shyne loses the suit, a portion of the money will be used to pay the plaintiffs.
