According to The New York Post, Ja and two of his bodyguards were caught on tape by surveillance cameras outside of the New York City club LQ as they left the venue while William "Willie Bang Bang" Clark and Troy Moore were entering.

Sources for the Post told the paper that the gunfire stemmed from a prior incident in which Clark and Moore robbed Foxy Brown's brother. The men, both ex-cons (Moore spent time behind bars for weapons and assault; Clark served 12 years for weapons possession), reportedly enraged Rule and his crew when they entered his party at the Lexington Avenue venue. Surveillance cameras show Ja's bodyguard tapping the window of the rapper's car and saying "come with me." One bodyguard leaves the vehicle and as Ja's car pulled away, they allegedly opened fire.
