Common, Paul Wall Among Nominees for mtvU Woodie Awards

left The awards, presented by MTV's college network, honors music voted on by the college audience. Common is up for "Woodie of the Year" (aka Artist of the Year), along with Gorillaz; "Road Woodie" (for touring), and "Alumni Woodie." He is also up for "The Good Woodie" (for social impact) for his Know HIV/AIDS Campaign, where he'll go up against artists including David Banner for his Heal the Hood campaign, and Kanye West for Loop Dreams. Paul Wall is up for "The Breaking Woodie" (Best Emerging Artist), while M.I.A. and Matisyahu are up for "Left Field Woodie" (Most Original Artist). Gorillaz are up for "Woodie of the Year" and "Best Video Woodie - Animated" for "Feel Good Inc.," along with Aesop Rock ("Fast Cars"). Other nominees include Akon, who is up for "International Woodie," and Mos Def, who has been nominated for "Alumni Woodie."

To vote, check out www.mtvU.com before October 28. Winners will be announced at the "mtvU Woodie Awards" live ceremony and concert event on November 2 at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City, and will premiere on mtvU and mtvU.com on November 10.
