Sam Derry, 46, was shot multiple times and then set on fire, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer, and police are investigating whether the killing was in retaliation against Sigel, who was recently released acquitted on attempted-murder charges.

Sources told the Inquirer that Derry, who was found at about 4 a.m., had third-degree burns covering most of his body, and that Derry's mother and his wife identified him by his personal effects. Neighbors reported hearing shots about an hour before firefighters arrived to put out the fire, and one witness told detectives that a van or SUV was near the area before the fire started.

When Sigel approached the scene Tuesday evening at about 7 p.m., he asked the media to disperse from the area. "C'mon man," he reportedly said while driving slowly. "Show somebody some respect. Y'all bringing cameras where people live at." A reporter responded that they were waiting for a comment from a family spokesperson, to which Sigel replied "There ain't no family spokesperson. Don't nobody got no comment for nothing."

Sigel's lawyer, Fortunato "Fred" Perri Jr., however did tell the newspaper that "the family is very saddened by the loss. They had no idea what a possible motive could be."

No word yet on whether Sigel will still take the stage at his scheduled homecoming performance - his first live show - set to take place at New York City's Exit NightClub on October 7.

The performance, presented by the Damon Dash Music Group would be Sigel's first in two years. If the event does take place, tickets will only be available at the door.
