Hip Hop Film Festival Closes with Awards Show

right On Saturday, November 12, H2A will honor nine of the 75 films screened over six days throughout New York City. One of the most prestigious awards will be the first-ever Heineken Emerging Filmmaker Award and a $2,500 cash grant to help further his or her filmmaking career.

Driving home the festival's theme of "Peace, Love, Unity & Having Fun!," the day will kick off with a screening of House Party at 1pm at the ImaginAsaian Theater at 239 East 59th Street (212-371-6682). At the Odyssey Awards, which kicks off at 6:30pm at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at 515 Malcolm X Boulevard, House Party stars, Kid-N-Play, and the films directors and writers Reginald and Warrington Hudlin will be honored.

Among the other honorees are poet Sonia Sanchez and The Last Poets. Rapper CL Smooth of Pete Rock and CL Smooth will close out the evening with a performance.
