Janet Jackson Can't Evade Web Celebrity
For the week ending Oct. 29, 2005, The Lycos 50 reported that Janet Jackson soared back onto Internet searches for the first time since last year.
The singer's ex-brother-in-law, Young DeBarge alleged that when Jackson and his brother James DeBarge were married, they had a daughter named Renee, now age 18. Jackson vehemently denies the claim, and issued a statment last Wednesday saying, "I do not have a child and all allegations saying so are false."
Jackson's brother, Tito Jackson, spoke out on the allegations in an interview with Extra last week during the BET 25 celebration.
The former Jackson 5 member declared, "People are talking about Janet…how do you react to all that. It goes through one ear and through the other one. I do not have a nephew or niece or whatever it is that's being said right now.”
right Some speculate whether Debarge's allegation is a publicity stunt to drive attention to his upcoming album. Ironically, according to The Lycos 50, Jackson generated 130 times more search activity than Debarge.
A 40-second paparazzi video of Jackson sunbathing naked circulating the Internet was also cause for heightened interest in the clebrity last week.
Jackson's lawyers reportedly attempted to have the video removed from the Web, but there were still clips and images displayed on sites as of last Thursday.
According to the Associated Press the exact source of the video and when it was shot was unclear. Photos taken at the same time popped up online last year, around the time of the now infamous "wardrobe malfunction."
