United Nations Readies World AIDS Day Event

right The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature performances by Roberta Flack and Bill T. Jones of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. The UN expects around 2,000 people to flock to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in Manhattan at 112th Street and Amsterdam Avenue for the event, which takes place from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on December 1 (doors open at 6:30 p.m.).

Expected to be the largest event to take place in the United States in honor of World AIDS Day, the UN's event will be co-hosted by Rosie Perez, Julia Ormond and Mpule Kwelagobe (Miss Universe 1999). Other performers include Anthony Rapp of Broadway musical-turned-movie Rent, Billy Porter of the musical Ghetto Superstar, and more.
