Target asked Blige to sign on to their efforts to honor the African American legacy because of her story, which they believe embodies the “dream in color” theme they are working to promote during the month of February, Black History Month. The company will also be releasing a gospel compilation featuring artists including CeCe Winans, Kirk Franklin and Yolanda Adams. This year, the company that worked with John Legend during Black Music Month in 2005, has launched a web site that features a learning center, historical timeline and teacher’s corner, including curriculum guides focusing on the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
"Creativity flourishes best when there are no boundaries or restrictions," Laysha Ward, vice president of community relations for Target, said in a statement. "Our support of Black History Month and the 'Dream in Color' message is meant to inspire everyone to reach their full potential."
