Beyonce Checks Up On No. 1 with "The Pink Panther"

right The flick, in which Beyoncé plays a pop star named Xania, earned $21.7 million in its opening weekend, according to early estimates.

The Pink Panther follows French detective Inspector Clouseau (Steve Martin) as he searches for answers to the mysterious murder of a world-famous soccer coach, and investigates the theft of the coach’s ring, set with the massive Pink Panther diamond. Beyoncé, as the girlfriend of the murdered soccer coach, is a prime suspect.

The film bested three other new releases for the No. 1 spot, including the thriller Final Destination 3, the family film Curious George and the action flick Firewall.
