left Hip hop pioneers will donate objects to the museum and through the collecting initiative, the Smithsonian hopes to gather all aspects of hip hop arts and culture, including vinyl records, handwritten lyrics, clothing, DJ equipment and any item that captures the essence of the music genre and lifestyle.
"We're really just starting out and beginning to understand the whole hip hop culture," expressed Valeska Hilbig, spokeswoman for the NMAH. "As we gather items, we would love to start a new museum exhibit a few years down the line."
