right Instead, Jay is hoping you'll help him out. The Def Jam president and part owner of the NBA team is holding a contest to find an amateur performer who can write and record a proper theme song for the Nets.

The lucky winner will get to meet Jay and perform the contest-winning song live at a Nets home game this season. The performer will also get to record the song in a studio and have that track played at all Nets home games.

Jay will select the winner from a final three entries chosen by representatives from the Nets and Hot 97.

Think you have what it takes? Record your track on CD or cassette tape and send by March 5 to:

"Nets Song Contest," Nets Basketball
390 Murray Hill Parkway
East Rutherford, NY 07073
