Mekhi Phifer to Get Honorary Doctorate

right Phifer is being presented with an honorary doctorate at Nigeria's Olabisi Onabanjo University on February 11, for his work with The Vine Group Charity, which works to reduce poverty via quality education. Currently based in South African while shooting episodes of NBC's ER, Phifer traveled to Nigeria to work with the charity, where he is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Professor Afolabi Soyode, Vice Chancellor of the university, will present Phifer with the honorary doctorate for his work with the charity, which has included traveling to Nigeria to visit schools that have been assisted by The Vine Group. Phifer will also be a guest at a new technology facility at The Polytechnic in Ibadan, which has been christened the Mekhi Phifer Research Center.
