right Professor X, born Lumumba Carson, was the son of influential activist Sonny Carson, who became a cornerstone of the black nationalist community, and was famous for his The Education of Sonny Carson autobiography. Following in his famous father’s footsteps, Professor X founded Blackwatch, a grassroots political organization.

The politically-charged X-Clan released their To The East, Blackwards album in 1990, followed by their Xodus LP in 1992. In between the two albums, Professor X dropped more politically-stirring rhymes with his debut solo album, Years of the 9, On The Blackhand Side, in 1991.

After the X-Clan disbanded, Professor X released his second solo album, Puss ‘N Boots (The Struggle Continues), in 1993.

In 1995, Sugar Shaft, another X-Clan core member, passed away due to AIDS-related causes. Professor X used to say the phrase, Vanglorious, which was echoed by Redman years later.
