left The Universal Music Publishing Group announced Monday (April 10) their signing of the teenage R&B sensation to an exclusive worldwide publishing deal. “It is great to have signed with Universal Music Publishing Group because they believe in me as an artist and want to see me progress as a writer,” said Brown in a press release statement. Brown, who cites the likes of Michael Jackson, Usher and Tevin Campbell as influences, rose straight to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 with his debut smash single “Run It” featuring Juelz Santana. Brown’s self-titled debut album also entered at No. 1 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. With an early track record and a bright future ahead, it’s clear why UMPG sealed the deal with Brown. “Chris Brown brings a fresh perspective to the world of R&B/Hip Hop,” says David Renzer, Chairman and CEO of UMPG. “His youthful, yet dynamic sound has garnered the attention of audiences and critics alike. “I am pleased that UMPG can provide a publishing home where this creative and driven talent can grow and succeed as a ground-breaking artist.” In signing to UMPG, Brown joins the likes of 50 Cent, G-Unit, Ciara, Prince, Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige.
