Now,
James Todd Smith and
Dave ‘Scooter’ Honig, his personal trainer, are providing the general public with the blueprint on how to get in pristine shape with their new fitness book,
LL Cool J’s Platinum Body.
left The book will take men and women readers through four fitness levels - Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum -, a status and certification that has become synonymous with LL Cool J’s famed lyrical career.
LL and Honig were inspired to make the book by fans that would constantly ask the self-proclaimed
G.O.A.T. what his workout secrets were.
Although Uncle L and his trainer lay it all out in
LL Cool J’s Platinum Body, Honig can attest that the key to his famous client’s chiseled frame is not a secret at all.
“He works hard. He finds the time to work out and he works way harder than the average person,” Honig, LL’s trainer of four and a half years, told
Vibe.com. “He came to me shortly after
Any Given Sunday and before the
Luv U Better video and told me he wanted to drop the weight.
“He's come a long way. Did you see the
Todd Smith album cover? He looks remarkable.”
Honig, who also travels with LL during his movies and tours, credits a combination of proper dieting, cardio, strength conditioning and overall time and hard work as the key factors to LL’s platinum body. Although LL is allowed to cheat on his regimen with an occasional fried food or chocolate dessert, Honig says Smith’s dedication to working out keeps his fitness level high.
Honig, who has been in the fitness business for more than 20 years, gets incredibly irked when people suggest that LL has undergone some sort of cosmetic surgery to attain his tip-top shape.
“To say that LL got his body by a cosmetic surgery is absolutely absurd and I really hate that,” says Honig. “To get in that kind of shape is true to life hard work. LL will be up at 5:45 a.m. for a session.
“He does a 110-lbs in each hand for a shoulder press. I mean, come on.”
Although it’s still in the writing process,
LL Cool J’s Platinum Body is scheduled to hit stores early 2007.
