Yoel Judah, Zab’s father, stepped between the ropes and threw a punch at Roger. Referee
Richard Steele tried to hold each corner at bay, while Las Vegas security flooded the ring to stop the near riot at the
Thomas & Mack Center.
“It was kind of scary watching it unfold,” says Joe Santoliquito, Managing Editor of
The Ring Magazine, the self-proclaimed
Bible of Boxing. “Richard Steele and the Las Vegas security did a great job because it potentially could have been very dangerous.
“The number of the entourage (in each fighters’ corner) needs to be limited.”
Since Saturday’s fight, Zab has claimed that Roger Mayweather choked him during the melee and
Don King believes that the decision must be overturned to a disqualification of Floyd.
The
Nevada Athletic Commission is currently withholding the purses of each fighter, until a review of the bout is completed on Thursday (April 13).
The $5 million Mayweather is slated to receive and the $1 million due to Judah may be in jeopardy.
