right On Wednesday morning (April 26) at the
Kings County Supreme Court in Brooklyn, New York, Judge
David Vaughan granted motion for the release of $100,000 from the funds that are presently frozen under the
Son of Sam Law. The funds will be used to pay legal fees to lawyer
Oscar Michelen, who has also been allowed to represent the rapper in the civil lawsuit stemming from the incident at
Club New York.
“Today’s ruling by the Court is a vindication of our position, of course, but more importantly I feel it is a vindication of a person’s right to counsel,” said Michelen via a press release statement. “While the
Son of Sam Law services to reserve assets for crime victims, the Court recognized that his important purpose of the law must yield in this instance to allow a person to have experienced counsel particularly in a serious lawsuit such as this.”
Shyne, who legally goes by the name
Moses Michael Levi, had previously gone without legal representation or access to his earnings as a recording artist for 18 months, until Wednesday’s victorious verdict.
In related news, an opposing motion to hold Shyne in contempt for allegedly distributing his funds was adjourned to June 15, 2006.
