right These students should have some writing/reporting skills and the intentions of pursuing a career in journalism. Furthermore, they should be tuned into the urban music world.
Vibe's Deputy Editor, Jamie Katz, feels that the C.A.B. program is beneficial for not only the students, but for the Vibe staff as well.
“At Vibe, we feel that we’re pretty situated here in New York but there’s a lot going on around the country that we need to keep up with and students can really help us do that,” explained Katz. “They’re our eyes and ears in the world of hip hop, R&B, fashion and culture.”
C.A.B. will be a great opportunity for the 12 appointed students to work with a major national magazine as is Vibe, as they will be able to submit a critique of the magazine to their assigned editors, as well as contribute to our 20 Questions section, among other things.
C.A.B. is also an easy way to gain valuable experience even if you can't relocate to the city.
“Mimi (Vibe's Editor-In-Chief) has said, that we feel it’s a little unfair, in a way, to students who are quite far from New York and L.A. who want to pursue careers in journalism, but don't get the same opportunities because of where they live,” said Katz. “So part of our thinking is that it is a way of opening a door to people who might have a lot of talent and really have something to contribute.”
Though C.A.B. has a very competitive application process, all are welcome to apply. If interested simply go to the Vibe.com home page, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "jobs", and look for the Vibe Campus Reporter position, where you can download the application from.
The deadline for all applicants is May 26.
