Well, despite his
One-Take Hov prowess, Jay-Z will likely be tested this Sunday (June 25) at New York City’s famed
Radio City Music Hall, as he attempts to recite his entire 1996
Reasonable Doubt album in front of a sold-out crowd.
With lyrics dating back to 10 years ago, Hov already has a few of his peers concerned.
Black Thought,
The Roots veteran MC, exclusively told
Vibe.com that an MC can easily forget his words if he’s not completely prepared.
“Yes, Yes, it can easily happen,” said Thought, about even a veteran MC forgetting his lyrics onstage. “You have to study and study, you know. You have to try to familiarize yourself with your old material. You just have to be completely prepared.”
right Thought’s fellow band member,
?uestlove, who will also be serving as Jay-Z’s musical director on Sunday, expressed concerns for the
Def Jam President in a recent
MTV News interview. ?uestlove said that he’s seen the likes of
GZA,
Prince and most recently
Nas forget their respective lyrics live at shows, while performing. ?uest even went as far as to suggest the use of a teleprompter this Sunday.
Still, Jay-Z will attempt to recapture the essence of
Reasonable Doubt, which was released June 25, 1996, exactly 10 years before Sunday’s concert date.
In a taping of the sports interview show, CenterStage, Jay-Z told host Michael Kay that his fans are his teleprompter.
In related news, fan can expect Jigga to not use the name Cristal in any of his songs on Sunday, as he boycotted the champagne after the company’s managing director made comments about hip hop that he deemed as racist.
Jay-Z's, Reasonable Doubt is still highly-regarded as the MC's best work to many hip hop fans.
